About
RealTime1040 compiles your IRS Form 1040 in real time. Link your bank and card accounts through Plaid, and AI agents categorize every transaction and map the tax-relevant ones to the exact line of your return, so you see your projected refund or balance due during the year, not at tax time.
- A live return. The 1040 compiles continuously from your profile and transactions, with a confidence level and the gaps still to resolve.
- Transactions, mapped. Every transaction is categorized like a budgeting app, then the tax-relevant ones are tied to a specific 1040 line. Most personal spending has no tax impact; it surfaces the parts that do.
- A what-if planner. Model extra withholding, an estimated payment, or new income, and watch the projected return update instantly.
- Strategies and an assistant. Personalized moves surfaced from your live numbers, plus an AI assistant that can answer questions about your own return.
Right now it’s a prototype, and I’m the test subject: running my own year through it to see how close a transaction-driven projection can get to a finished return.
How I built it
Built with Claude Code. A deterministic tax engine projects the 1040 line by line from categorized transactions, and AI agents handle the messy part: reading bank and card activity and mapping it to the right lines and schedules. It’s honest about its limits. The engine flags what it can’t yet model, like Net Investment Income Tax in this early phase, rather than guessing, and every strategy it surfaces is framed as a planning estimate, not tax advice.
